Photoshop CS5: It makes me mad. / June 10th, 2010

Today I decided to get Adobe’s latest product, Photoshop CS5. I was not a huge fan of it, and now that I have it, I must say I am thoroughly frustrated. It makes everything way too easy! Below is an image from my shoot with Jamie’s Elsewhere (Victory Records), of which was edited using only the selection tool and delete key on my keyboard. NO experience necessary:

Now I understand it’s no masterpiece. But it was only made in 3 minutes. Photoshop has a new feature called “Content-Aware Fill” where you hit delete and it will automatically fill in that space with surrounding elements, erasing it from the photo without disrupting the photo’s integrity. I hate this. I loved being able to be one of the only ones that could simply replace heads and not care about if my light-stands slipped into the shot, knowing I could fix it all up in CS4. But now, any kid can take a picture with their cellphone and put it on their computer and hit delete and call themselves a designer. It’s ridiculous. I can hit a key and take heads away and make a grass wall twice its original size. I believe that I can do a better job quality-wise as well. I just dont like that the feature enables anyone to not have to develop an original editing style. This, in my opinion, will keep a user from enhancing their own editing style, meaning that the future of photography and design will become bland and unoriginal. Sad.

Welcome / June 9th, 2010

Today begins a new step for my photography. Today is the official release of samlinkphotography.com. I’ve time and again designed several different websites for myself that don’t seem to make me happy. I’m glad to have a site that finally gives me a sense of legitimacy.
